Take me away from the simple life. Complicate they every day with more bric-a-brac than even God knows what to do with.

I guess it was coming. After all, with sunsets approaching four in the afternoon who didn’t see it coming.

Another near miss on getting my pic of the day. Quick, get the camera and snap some mundane leaves on a rain soaked deck.

The sign on the door reads “Vena Cava.” No door mat, no wreath signaling what season we’ve just entered, and no doorbell to announce my arrival. Wandering through each chamber, taking inventory, and banishing the cobwebs there is an emptiness akin to long forgotten steel left to rust in an abandoned shed. I haven’t been here in a while and the place needs a little upkeep.

The depreciation of the yellow. The browning of the red. The shedding of the forest. We’ve left behind all that fall could have offered and barreled our way toward another solstice.

An asphalt forest bathed in an ocean of autos greets us as we search desperately for a space to call our own. “Are they leaving or just getting here?” she asks as I look through the throng of glass and steel for some vehicular real estate. We could park further away and benefit from the long and arduous walk to our shopping Mecca. Or, throw caution to the wind and occupy the empty paraplegic space.

The last of the peppers from the garden. May their heat keep winter at bay.
